Stumble and Bob
This happened to a friend of mine about 10 years ago or so, but it’s worth posting. He was on a bus in South Minneapolis on his way to a job interview when a stumbling drunk of a man pulls himself onto the bus, swings around on the pole and sits down w/o paying. The [...]
Santa and his Weed
I was taking the 21 and this lady with a stroller is flagging down the bus with her little girl. The bus stops, and waits for her, and she comes on the bus saying she’s too old to have kids. She’s searching all of her pockets and in the stroller for her transfer and she [...]
Trashy revenge
This is more of a waiting for the bus stop story. It happened at the 16/50/21 stop in Midway going to Minneapolis–Albert St, I think. I was reading, waiting for the 50 going to Mpls. This guy pulls his hand out of his pocket and his transfer falls on the ground. I tell him and [...]
His face was ashen
I was sitting just behind the rear exit door on a southbound 84 when I noticed a man, mid 30′s, sitting on the left side of the bus a few rows up who was not looking very well. He was belching and swallowing and obviously doing everything possible to keep from puking up all over [...]
Twenties, tens, and fives
Right before my stop we were sitting at a red light. There was a homeless person on the corner [as is usually the case in minneapolis], whom she waved over. With a smile, she handed him a free transfer and we went on our way. I thought it was a very nice gesture. When we [...]

Let me start off by saying in the 5 years I’ve been riding the bus, I have never had anything strange happen on Route 70 (the route I ride 7 days a week), at least to me, the quietest route on the Metro Transit system. Today that changed.
This transfer is no good
Long, long ago, before the buses had electronic fare boxes, drivers issued paper transfers and had to check them visually when they were presented. Also, long, long ago MTC, as it was called then, didn’t have its own police force. It hired off-duty police from various departments.
Half a transfer
I drive for Metro Transit and end up hearing a lot of stories from drivers back at the garage. One story in particular was funny-almost “creative” way of expressing a common frustration of many drivers. One evening on the 5 line a driver had a passenger get on and only put in half the fare-a [...]
Who’s got the keys to the bus?
This happened about fifteen years ago to a driver named Chuck. He was making his last trip of the night, from Hennipen and Lagoon to Selby and Snelling. This was back in the days of paper transfers, when the driver would tear a transfer off a book mounted in the transfer cutter. The transfer cutter [...]
