They’re taking away your freedom
There was a period of time where I had a driver on the 50 who decided that the bus PA system was their own personal pulpit. I must say that this driver was punctual, polite, and cautious. I know that they meant well. However, it started getting weirder and weirder every day.
I’m listening honey
I was sitting in the front of the bus directly across from this older couple, easily in their 70′s. The man was wearing a worn out red baseball cap pretty low and it cast a shadow on his face. The woman was all dolled up with make up and in a talkative mood. I think [...]
I told you that you’d get caught!
I got on the 6 one afternoon and since I didn’t know where I was going I sat near the driver, “Bob”. He was a pretty talkative guy and started telling me of a guy who gets on his bus each mornings.
You don’t see the humor in that?
On my ride home yesterday I had the pleasure of listening to a loud fellow talk the driver’s ear off. As the driver was raising the lift for someone in a wheelchair to get off, the loud fellow had this to say:

Normally if I attend any sort of Happy Hour activity after work I like to take a cab home because the 18 can get pretty sketchy after rush hour. Well, tonight I went to happy hour and only stayed for two drinks so I thought, well it’s still early, so I’ll hop the 18 home [...]

Enjoy your precious life
Some of the bus drivers can be really strange. This one older lady who drove the 16 alway gave a comment every time she let someone off the bus (examples–”have a warm peaceful relaxing evening” or “enjoy the rest of your precious life”. When we came to dr.martin luther king jr. blvd she announces “Dr. [...]
En-Route Ettiquette Takes a Breather
As some of my friends know from my text messages en-route, the personal hell I call mass transit is full of colorful folks on the Downtown-to-Uptown line. Today, I got in line for the #4 bus behind one such young man. The minute I ascended the stairs, I was enveloped in – not a slight [...]
Less talking, more listening
I don’t like talking on the bus. It’s my time to zone out, think, listen to music, whatever. But not to make chit chat. Now maybe as a driver (Leon, care to jump in?) it helps pass the time, but I’ve seen more than a few clingy talkative riders that just won’t leave the driver [...]
