What were you drinking?

On the 21 the other day, an old Native American man without any teeth stumbles on the bus, falling over and tripping over every one.

Recall the horror

Late one night I was riding the 54 in downtown Saint Paul. It was the usual crowd riding the bus, workaholics & homeless people. After a few blocks I noticed a rancid smell, almost like vomit. I didn’t notice it when I got on the bus, but it was fairly strong. [warning: gross content]

Thunderous belch

It was raining this morning so instead of biking I decided to hop on the 6 to get downtown. It wasn’t too packed and I was able to snag a two-seater all to myself. About 5 minutes went by before I heard what sounded like someone ripped the vinyl seat cushion in half. Maybe that [...]

Twenties, tens, and fives

Right before my stop we were sitting at a red light. There was a homeless person on the corner [as is usually the case in minneapolis], whom she waved over. With a smile, she handed him a free transfer and we went on our way. I thought it was a very nice gesture. When we [...]

Nothing turns a girl on more

Coming home from my brother’s late one night this past winter, I hopped on the 21 to Uptown. About two stops into my ride, a man got on and sat next to me on an otherwise empty bus. I, of course, was pretending to be sleeping, but there’s something about an uninterested person [...]

50 expired transfers

Let me start off by saying in the 5 years I’ve been riding the bus, I have never had anything strange happen on Route 70 (the route I ride 7 days a week), at least to me, the quietest route on the Metro Transit system. Today that changed.

Bad hair decade

In the late 80’s I was on a bus, in Milwaukee. Probably going home from my “McJob” at the downtown mall, late at night. A woman gets on the bus, no one I recalled seeing on that route, as it was usually full of other “McJobbers” from the same mall, most of them high school [...]

Sleeps with the buses

About 7 years ago, I rode the entire route from downtown St. Paul to its layover back them near the Uptown Rainbow. I was really pregnant at the time, and few people will give up their seats for a pregnant woman. Strangely, this packed bus, with people standing in the aisle had one [...]

Goosed

It was St. Patrick’s Day, 2007, I was riding the 63 from Grand and Fairview down to the 7th street bars. We pulled over to pick up some passengers and this homeless man was obviously drunk as he struggled to even make it to the bus door. Sitting in front of me was [...]

Unbathed and out of sorts

Twenty years ago, I was traveling from Corpus Christi to Boston. I remember being somewhere in South Carolina, feeling very sick, and a woman brought me cream of mushroom soup in a styrofoam coffee cup. I was so thankful.
