Turning a blind eye
So, I was waiting for the bus at Uptown Transit today when this blind guy was trying to get on a bus to ask which one it was. He heard it approach, and the bus lane is for buses to stop only, but traffic on Hennepin was bad and people are jerks and were using [...]
I’ve got problems and more gloves
Sometimes I like to ride the transit bus. It gives me some down time, time to evaluate myself and my problems. I’ve got problems and riding the bus gives me time to try to find, and ask for, solutions. I rarely talk to the other bus people but sometimes someone wants to tell a story, [...]
Words of wisdom
This morning I got on the 6 going downtown. The bus was slightly more crowded than usual, and I was standing for a little while. When we hit Loring Park, the bus was (obviously) more full, with more glum-looking commuters in the aisle.
My bus hottie
My husband and I met on the 134 when we were both commuting from Highland Park to downtown Mpls. Most people keep to themselves on this commuter route, and I certainly didn’t have the guts to speak to him. For about a year, I called him my bus hottie and would occassionally fill my friends [...]
Garbage in the metro
A couple months ago, I had a good laugh on the 62. We were cruising down Rice Street and then had a stop and a red light at Rice and Maryland. I was spacing out and staring out the window when I saw the funniest car of my life. It was a [...]
Candy Hearts
On Valentines Day our bus driver gave out candy hearts to all the women on board. Then, about halfway through the trip, our driver said to the men on board that he would buy them lunch if they got up and put together a romantic sentence using the candy hearts. Nobody volunteered, but it was [...]
Door-to-Door Service
Paul is a busdriver for Rochester City Lines, who has become a friend over the years. I first met Paul when he drove the last bus that left from the college, and arrived downtown at the transfer station around 10 p.m. My house was still quite aways from downtown, but I could easily [...]
Da-do-ron-ron
I ride the bus in Rochester, and have for several years. The bus culture is very diverse: You have your Mayo Clinic doctors and staffers going between Park ‘n’ Ride and clinic buildings; you have lots of ethnicity because Rochester prides itself in its diversity.
True love
I don’t remember the route number, maybe St. Paul’s 7, but one of my best memories of the bus is taking the bus from St. Kate’s to the main library in downtown St. Paul on a winter day sitting there with my bag of trashy romance novels and watching an older couple (70’s) get on [...]
Twin Cities vs. Chicago
I moved to mpls/st. paul almost a year ago from chicago. Always took public trans in chicago and planned on doing the same here. We live in st. paul and i take the 134 to downtown mpls. I’m writing to share my amazement over the level of service vs chicago.
