Door-to-Door Service
Paul is a busdriver for Rochester City Lines, who has become a friend over the years. I first met Paul when he drove the last bus that left from the college, and arrived downtown at the transfer station around 10 p.m. My house was still quite aways from downtown, but I could easily walk to [...]
Big Mac Attack
So I got picked up on 34th street and there werent that many people on the bus and everything is going as it normally would. Then all of the sudden the bus driver pulls over the bus over right on hennepin in between lake and lagoon (which is odd because the bus never stops there [...]
Confession
This is going to sound insensitive, but I have to admit that it tests my patience every time someone needs to use the lift to get on the bus, especially when it’s for some sort of small wheelie cart. The other day I wanted to stand up and applaud when the driver walked out of [...]
Da-do-ron-ron
I ride the bus in Rochester, and have for several years. The bus culture is very diverse: You have your Mayo Clinic doctors and staffers going between Park ‘n’ Ride and clinic buildings; you have lots of ethnicity because Rochester prides itself in its diversity.
Someday when you’re older
I was on the bus the other night when two thirteen years old got on and was sharing a transfer. The bus driver told them only one transfer per person. When they got seated one of them pulled out a cigarette and starting smoking. The bus driver pulled over and told them to get out. [...]
Twin Cities vs. Chicago
I moved to mpls/st. paul almost a year ago from chicago. Always took public trans in chicago and planned on doing the same here. We live in st. paul and i take the 134 to downtown mpls. I’m writing to share my amazement over the level of service vs chicago.
Enjoy your precious life
Some of the bus drivers can be really strange. This one older lady who drove the 16 alway gave a comment every time she let someone off the bus (examples–”have a warm peaceful relaxing evening” or “enjoy the rest of your precious life”. When we came to dr.martin luther king jr. blvd she announces “Dr. [...]
I want some Play Dough
I was on my usual daily commute on the bus, and my freindly bus driver always called out the names of the streets. One of the streets in our area is Plato street. As he called “plato” a little girl riding with her grandmother whines- I want some Play Dough. Everyone on the bus cracked [...]
Smooth Operator
I take this route 2 or 3 times per week and must say the driver (don’t know his name) that stops at Grand & Dale at 8:13AM is the smoothest driver. I mean, there is no jerky braking or swerving of the steering wheel. It’s as if he drives like he’s a passenger too. It’s [...]
Less talking, more listening
I don’t like talking on the bus. It’s my time to zone out, think, listen to music, whatever. But not to make chit chat. Now maybe as a driver (Leon, care to jump in?) it helps pass the time, but I’ve seen more than a few clingy talkative riders that just won’t leave the driver [...]
