If I'd been there and seen her kick you, well, it's one of the rare times I get mean.

Hi, Jeanne! Won't recognize me by name, but I'm who you call Web from your blog, Picking up Strangers. This is my preferred online alias.

A line I use often when bus people are being jerks is, "If you hate the world, the world might just hate you back." There's other techniques especially since Colorado Springs has pretty great scenery everywhere you look. I point at Pikes Peak and say, " the mountain dosen't hate you." I tap the window or a seat on the bus, "The bus dosen't hate you, it just goes where it goes. Look at your fellow passengers, we don't hate you... yet...So calm down and try to enjoy the ride like the rest of us."

I am a bus driver. I'm sure the problem was with what is called the retarder. Depending on the bus, it is either on the gas or brake pedal. For example, when you remove your foot from the gas pedal, it automatically kicks in to slow the bus down...even before you put your foot on the brake. Some of these are jerky and there is nothing the driver can do about it...except write up a repair order so it isn't a problem for the next driver.
