I've had several bus drivers who mumble into the mike or speak so unclearly that street names come out sounding like...entirely different phrases than what they are. I'll always remember a bus driver that make "Groveland" sound like "Kremlin". "Next stop, Kremlin." (Whoa! I rode to Russia without meaning to!) And the one who, when announcing Marquette, said "Smart Cat."

Speaking of calling out street names--When the driver yells out aldine st. over by the midway how do we know it isn't pronounced aldeen? I heard one driver yell it both ways. What is the meaning of that word? Sounds like a womans name if you ask me. Also--I remember an old driver who would yell out "and spring is just around the corner" meaning the spring st. bus stop in NE MPLS on the 10 line after announcing we just passed summer st. Then some lady told the bus driver that was a cute thing to say and the driver said he had been saying that one for years and that it was his last day of driving and was going to retire. There is a winter st. in NE but not nearby that intersection. I wonder why there isn't a fall or autumn st. in NE MPLS?
