I try not to litter. That said, I have had instances where I’ve littered by accident. Like the wind pulling the receipt out of my hand (or bag) and flinging it up to the nearest tall tree. Or accidentally dropping a potato chip on the ground.

My friend, however, loves littering and will just fling his empty water bottle onto someone’s roof, given half a chance.

I was on the bus yesterday and the three teenage girls sitting in front of me-near the near the bus entrance door were eating bags of chips and they continuously opened the window to throw trash out it,,,empty chip bags, ripped up transfers, candy rappers. The air conditioning was on so they had to open and close the window numerous times to do this,,,they were actually passing the trash to the girl in back nearest the window…I’m sure the bus driver saw them doing this and didn’t say anything, same as me…. I had my 2 y.o. daughter sleeping on my lap and these seemed like the type of girls who wouldn’t take criticism of their behavior well. Their parents already taught, or didn’t teach them how to behave. That’s north Minneapolis for you though I guess. At least its not as bad a the piles of trash on the sides of the roads in Georgia or Florida, yet.

On the other side of the coin If your not my parent or a park police(a officer that actually might give a shit if you litter or not) And you scold me for littering, your lucky if all you get is a butt on your shoe. You probably would get a good tongue lashing with it.

Your stupid and/or ignorant if you think its okay to throw trash on the ground. If everyone was ignorant like that, their would be trash everywhere, the smell would be so bad and the maggots and cockroaches would be all over the ground we walk on. Anytime I see someone throw trash on the ground, I tell them the same thing.

Your litterbug was angry because you called him on behavior he already knew is wrong. Nobody likes to be reminded of his or her failures and weaknesses and inconsistencies by someone else. And when the someone else is right, it just makes a person all the more angry.

Lewis also captures one of the characteristics of a true American. We can do whatever we darn well please, so either shut up or move to a civilized country.

Thanks for calling the litter bug on this. Some people are just slobs. But if enough people point out their trashy ways, perhaps we can get them to be a little less lazy and walk the few feet to the closes trash can.
