Target Prescription Drugs

One thing I’ll never understand is how some people feel perfectly comfortable speaking loudly in a quiet public setting. What’s even more confusing is that these people often talk about some very private subjects. The other day my husband and I were riding the bus together and two women got on. One of them was already in the middle of talking, very loudly.

At first I wasn’t paying too much attention to what they were talking about, but I did observe that the one woman (we’ll call her the veteran) was taking the other one (newbie) under her wing. The veteran was offering some advice about where they were living and the newbie was all ears. In fact throughout the entire bus ride I think I only heard newbie open her mouth two times.

A little later in the bus ride the advice shifted from general living tips to something very specific. As I mentioned before, the veteran’s voice was very loud and by this point everyone else was dead silent. I can only assume they were listening as intently as I was. The conversation went something like this:

Veteran: So whatcha wanna do is go to the Target pharmacy…remember the name I told you?
Newbie: doesn’t say anything
Veteran: Don’t act nervous or nothin, you just ask for the pills. Now if they ask for id you just turn around and walk straight out of there. You get out, I mean get out.

I was just dumbfounded. Is this woman really giving advice on how to steal someone else’s prescription with the entire bus as an audience? Yes, she was.

It would be much more disturbing if that plan had a chance in hell of working. At least I hope it doesn’t…

I agree, there’s no way that could work…maybe she was setting the newbie up?

Sadly, that does work. I used to be an addiction counselor and I’ve heard all the tricks.
