Just a little guy
I’m on the 4 by the Walker. This guy got on back in downtown and I smelled him immediately. Everyone starts yelling in the back of the bus and I’m 6′4” 250 lbs. so I have a responsibility here. Turns out the drunk is trying to bat up some foreign tourist who speaks some Eastern European language.
He’s just a little guy though. They both are. I separate them and take the tourist up to the front of the bus but the drunk hasn’t had enough. He walks up and tries to throw a punch at me so I yell at the bus driver to open the door.
I haul the guy across one lane of traffic and sit him down on the curb. I get back on and everyone starts clapping to my disgust. He was just a little guy. Why couldn’t someone else do the right thing?

Someone else couldn’t do it because that’s not “Minnesota Nice”. It seems that the locals here are paralyzed by it and it adversely affects their abilities to take action in confrontational types of situations. They can usually be relied on to acquiesce when pushed around by others.

Matt is right. My girlfriend got her tip jar stolen at a coffee shop during mid day. No one even yelled after the guy. A group near the door said they saw him take it but thought he was “going to the bank”. People don’t give a shit about anyone else but themselves.
