Give me attention!

I got onto the bus and saw that the only seat open was next to a blind man with his seeing eye dog. I had no problem with that… I love dogs. I do know, however, that it’s probably in my best interest to leave the dog, and consequently the man, alone. However, the dog wouldn’t leave me alone. He kept nudging my leg, licking my hand, doing whatever he could to get some attention from me. I let in… and gave the dog a nice pet on the head.

The blind man somehow knew what had happened and made a scene… overly demanding that I leave the dog alone. The driver, not wanting the scene to go any further kicked me off the bus… late at night. The next bus wasn’t coming for another hour. so I walked the mile and a half back into uptown.

    i’ve also had a run-in with a seeing-eye dog on a bus!

mine was more sad, though, as i was new to Madison and feeling lonely at the time. i’m normally afraid of dogs, but this one kept inching towards me and looking at me with these deep, mournful eyes and, after a long long wait, i decided to make a connection with it.

first of all, i didn’t know it was a seeing-eye dog. but it was, and it turns out he was in training. the two women with him were really noisy about how i shouldn’t touch him, and they kept wearily saying “*Please* don’t touch him” over and over, as though they expected me to disobey them.

I was only 2 blocks from my stop when it happened, but we sat at a stoplight for an eternity, my cheeks burning as i imagined everyone seated behind me judging me furiously. i managed to hold in my tears until i got off the bus.

Wow, i would be really mad if that happened. Petting a dog is not something you should be kicked off a bus for. Is something missing from this story, because it seems the blind man was in the wrong, not you. I would have called Metro Transit and complained about the driver kicking you off.

Ditto what Andy said — if nothing else, the driver should have made you change seats. Jeez.
