Metro Transit vs. Campus Circulator

A young woman told the driver she needed to transfer to the 3, and asked what stop she should use. The bus driver was giving her some very convoluted directions–get off at a certain stop, walk a few blocks in a certain direction, etc. etc. She was clearly new in town and looked very uncertain.

A bunch of U students sitting near the front of the bus told her, “The U circulator bus is free and it picks you up right over there and takes you to the St. Paul campus. That’s where you need to go, right?” So she thanks them and starts getting off the bus. The driver gets very attached to his advice and apparently wants to keep his customer in the Metro Transit system. So he repeats all his directions and she’s even more uncertain now, because she doesn’t want to offend anybody.

So she says, “OK,” and then the students start shouting again, “No! Take the free circulator! It’s right over there! It’s the best way!”

She leaves the bus, and the driver actually stands up and shouts and gestures for her to come back. So she finally gives in and re-boards the bus, and the students are just shaking their heads and wishing her luck.

I’d truly like to know whereabouts this happened. Anywhere from downtown Minneapolis to Anderson Hall and the two routes run alike. After that there is no reasonalble way to go from a 16 to a 3 until University and Rice in St. Paul. Details please.

She could take the 16 to Coffman and catch a 3 on campus somewhere; that might have been what the poster was talking about.
