Don’t be so shy
I have been riding the bus since I was 13. I’m 19 now, and the buses were weird then, and are still weird now. But seeing as it’s my main way of transportation, I try to keep my headphones on, and avoid eye contact as much as possible.
I remember this one Saint Patricks day a couple years ago. Buses are free so of course I try to travel as much as I can that day. It was around 9 pm or so, and I was on a 16 heading into MPLS to meet a friend in Dinky Town. My head phones were on, Sublime was playing smoothly, and all the noises of the drunken schmucks drowned out perfectly.
Well, this one guy, was so drunk, that he decided I was his girlfriend, even though I was sure from the look on the females face across from us, he was making a huge mistake. I took off one of the ear pieces, and kindly asked him to take his arm off of my shoulders. He slurred out some words that kind of sounded like, “Don’t be so shy” or something like that. The female across from us was getting steadily angrier as the minutes passed. I tried getting up, and he wouldn’t let me out of the seat. The female started yelling at him, and the argument started. He kept trying to pull me into the middle of it! I had no idea who the hell he was, and the female was trying to tell him the same.
I was very uncomfortable, and remember exactly the reason I don’t like drunk people, or taking the bus into MPLS at night.
Their argument started other arguments, seeing as this drunk guy was falling all over the place, and of course, falling into other drunk people.
The cops were called, and everything was settled after about 45 minutes or so. It took me almost 3 hours to get into MPLS that night, and I missed my friend, so I had to turn right back around, to go into Saint Paul, and then back to Oakdale.
That is one of the weirdest 16 rides I have ever been on.
