My bus hottie

My husband and I met on the 134 when we were both commuting from Highland Park to downtown Mpls. Most people keep to themselves on this commuter route, and I certainly didn’t have the guts to speak to him. For about a year, I called him my bus hottie and would occassionally fill my friends in on sightings.

One day he got off at my stop and struck up a conversation. Turns out he had been parking near my stop for a few days hoping to catch the same bus home and ask me out. He was concerned it would seem weird if he got off at my stop to ask me out, so he consulted a few friends. One in particular told him he had nothing to lose and to just go for it.

When I called my friend to tell him my “bus hottie” had asked me out, it slowly dawned on him that he knew both of us and we had been talking to him about each other–he was the guy who had told my husband to go for it.

Two years after our first bus stop conversation, we got on another city bus that took us to that same stop. My husband retold all the moments of our first meeting and ending by proposing. At our wedding reception we assigned all of our tables with names of stops along the route and we sat at a table labeled Route 134. Five and half years later, we still love to tell our bus story!

My husband and I are both bus drivers, so naturally we met at work.
5 years later we got married ( we got marred on lucky 7-7-07) The officiant threw something into his spiel about how we’d “Never throw each other under the bus”. Can’t recall exactly the whole speech, but that stuck in my mind for obvious reasons. We didn’t t get creative the way you did with the reception theme, but that sounds so cool!

What a nice story to read! Twenty five years ago I was a Flight Attendant on Northwest Airlines. The plane had a mechanical. I was in my jumpseat facing passengers. The passenger in seat 22b directly in from of me, was in his white Navy Officer uniform looking pretty cute. He phoned me that evening .We were married 7 months later and our 25th is coming up!

It’s simply amazing where you can find love these days….. even if it’s the most oddest places (but those are the interesting “how did you meet” stories)

I’ved tried asking out women I meet from the bus. If I don’t get shot down, they usually turn out to be alcoholics or drug abusers. I’m glad to hear that someone can find something different.

I was asked out by a guy I met on the bus, who later told me that he couldn’t meet for dinner because he was on parole. He said it was “only for having a gun, nothing serious.” Needless to say that was the end of that.
