Here to straighten you out

Back in the days of Snelling Garage, I was in the drivers’ room when two of Metro Transit’s police came in and started using the phone. I listened for a bit and got curious enough to ask questions when they were done. It seems two youths of about fourteen years of age were riding the 54 to the Mall of America and having some fun trashing the bus. They had some foodstuffs that they were flinging about. An adult male told them to knock it off. Continue reading ‘Here to straighten you out’

Oversized Mobility Scooter

I wait for my bus line 2 while I am sitting in my power wheelchair (normal size) at 22nd/Franklin Ave, rolled into secured area. While riding my bus to the Lyndale/Franklin Ave, I saw a oversized mobility scooter at Bloomington/Franklin Ave, the elderly woman’s scooter face forward onto the lift, the driver told elderly “Turn around and backward onto lift”, she little bit of fericous (sp?) and not want go backward instead she using forward onto the lift, the scooter went into wheelchair secured area next to me. Half a transfer

I drive for Metro Transit and end up hearing a lot of stories from drivers back at the garage. One story in particular was funny-almost “creative” way of expressing a common frustration of many drivers. One evening on the 5 line a driver had a passenger get on and only put in half the fare-a common practice along with “no fare”. The man stated he only had half the fare and could he please have a transfer? The driver smiled and pulled up the transfer-grabbing it before the man could and ripped it in two peices. The man replied “What the f-*** is this?” The driver repiled “You payed half the fare..here’s half a transfer!”

The one and only destination

I ride an express bus. There are 10 or so stops as the bus picks up commuters on the way out of town, rolling down Marquette, turning on 11th to pick up the Targetrons, finally hitting 394 west bound, out to the one and only destination, the park and ride. Let me repeat that last bit: there is one stop once we leave downtown. And no one ever gets off the bus until we reach the park and ride. It’s very simple. Get on the bus. When the bus stops, get off. Continue reading ‘The one and only destination’
