His teeth were biting my…

In the early nineties I was a student at the U of MN, living off campus and without a car. As a result I became a bus expert. I specialized in the teens – the 17, the 19, the 16 - and sometimes even graduated to the 21. I have a million stories, but […]

Take it to the hole

For some reason Metro Transit hasn’t realized that they need to add more #4 buses during rush hour. Due to that fact, the evening rush hour #4 bus is always packed, and I always end up standing toward the front of the bus. The other day I got on and, per the usual, was standing […]

They’re taking away your freedom

There was a period of time where I had a driver on the 50 who decided that the bus PA system was their own personal pulpit. I must say that this driver was punctual, polite, and cautious. I know that they meant well. However, it started getting weirder and weirder every day.

Can’t tune out the horn

Since the 35w collapse, riding any bus that goes over the Hennepin ave bridge before or after work you may have noticed a longer ride than normal. I feel for any bus driver that has to sit in all that traffic.

A lovely message from Osama

Whilst riding the glamorous number 16 as a freshmen at the U, I had an ‘interesting’ encounter with some fellows right around Wiley Hall. Keep in mind that this was on a Friday evening, around 6 o’clock. Several gentlemen began talking extremely loudly about “popping a cap in his” etc… Upon hearing […]

Rub the wrong way

Last night on the bus I stood in my favorite spot and posted up for the four stops home. Some guy comes in and stands directly in front of me, crowding my space. The bus was relatively empty and I figure he was invading my territory because that was his favorite spot.

Stroller logic puzzle

This happened when my daughter was about 2 and a half. We were taking the bus home, I forget from where, and the only seat was toward the back. So I folded up the stroller, stuck it under the seat, and put her on my lap. Getting off the side door of a bus with […]

Trashy newspapers

Its early fall on Nicollet ave. I’m waiting for the #9. I gradually notice that there is a person (a woman I think) with heavy coat, hat, scarf, mittens standing near the bus stop. In fact she is so heavily dressed that all that is visible is her eyes. Yet its 50 degrees outside.

Disciple of the Devil Man

My wife, myself and then eleven year old daughter had attended the campaign rally for President Bush at the Target center, a few years ago. Because we anticipated a great deal of parking problems we decided to take the bus, I believe it was the 5H at the time. The rally was too loud, […]

But the porch light was on!

Believe it or not, some drivers spoil their passengers. One such was Jim, who retired about two years ago. I used to relieve him on the 74 and as he got his things together to get off the bus it sounded like the end of a family reunion, what with all the see-you-tomorrows […]
